Overview

The Bowen Group, a values-led, industry leader in telehealth, health communications, and wellness services and staffing is searching for a Instructional System Designer.  This is a temporary, contract position located in Stafford, VA. 

Responsibilities

The Instructional Systems Designer works as part of a team of instructional designers responsible for developing web-based and instructor-led courseware and products using the principles of adult learning theory, appropriate learning technologies and industry best practices. This is a full-time position based in Stafford, Virginia.

  • Develops training products (instructor/facilitator guides, student guides, storyboards, video scripts and other training material) by applying the principles of adult learning theory, instructional systems design to include developing learning objectives and applying appropriate learning technologies and industry best practices for instructional design, knowledge capture and retention
  • Conducts need and gap analysis and recommends realistic, deployable learning and knowledge management solutions.
  • Assists with training direction and casting for instructional videos
  • Develops project plans and design documents
  • Designs interactive multimedia instruction training products, to include instructional videos as well as live and web based courses, by applying the appropriate standards, specifications, processes, procedures and tools throughout the instructional development life cycle
  • Conducts piloting programs for review of instructional materials (courses, videos, and other training material).
  • Develops pre and post assessments and knowledge checks
  • Executes approved training and course evaluation strategies
  • Works with a cross-functional team of graphic designers, program liaisons, video developers and other stakeholders to ensure learning and development needs are aligned with the customer's business priorities
  • Ensures that all instructional products are 508 compliant
  • Other duties as requested

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design or related field with five or more years of experience in web-based and instructor-led training design and development or instructional video development, education on instructional design for adults or an associate’s degree in instructional design or related field and 10 or more years of experience
  • Proven experience in course design and training video development for online and blended learning environments, incorporating the latest technologies in the design and delivery of the course
  • Demonstrated experience in course design and development for classroom delivery, including design and development of learner activities and exercises, creation of instructional material, lesson plans and job aids
  • Experience working with instructional design and adult learning and training methodologies
  • Experience working with current technology and multimedia to develop and apply to training programs
  • Ability to read, interpret, organize material into well-written, concise learning and knowledge assets
  • Thorough understanding of multiple ISD models and instructional strategies, including most current ISD practices and techniques to include Bloom’s taxonomy
  • Demonstrated experience working with Articulate Studio 13, Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate or Lectora
  • Knowledge of SCORM standards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Knowledge of 508 compliance in the development of instructional products to include online instructional products
  • Strong knowledge of code (HTML, HTML5, XML and CSS) to support a programmer or to modify existing material
  • Mobile learning and video development a plus
  • Familiarity with the military community and quality of life programs a plus
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check
  • PC literacy required; MS Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
